Zakelro! is the creative collaboration of Rachel Zakariasen and Corvus Elrod, two wandering storytellers whose had the good fortune to cross paths and join together for many wild and wonderful adventures. Our passion is in exploring the Story, Play, & Community through as many avenues as possible, whether it be through traditional storytelling, experimental theater, animation, game design, fiber arts, or exciting combinations of these and other creative pursuits.
Why do we have such a strong focus on Story, Play, & Community?
Human existence is centered around a longing to understand the world. People want to know how they fit in, why they are here, how they are supposed to live. Throughout recorded history, and likely further back, human beings have used stories and play to explain and explore how they got here, what those bright lights in the sky are, how they should treat one another, and how to survive another turn around the sun.
Yet, while these three concepts are defining elements of human existence, most people wander through their modern lives largely unaware that every single hour of every single day they are creating stories, playing games, and building community. But story and play are frequently dismissed as “kids’ stuff” and relegated to the realm of popular media. Why do we consistently put two the most powerful tools of our survival in the hands of big corporations?
Zakelro! Story Studio exists to get Story and Play back from the big corporations and more profoundly into our Communities. We understand that Story and Play have the power to help us make sense of the universe and understand our place in the world.
